16 tools you need for training a husky with an e-collar

Our "How to train a Siberian Husky with an e-collar course" teaches your husky various commands and routines, significantly improving their discipline. Compared to other breeds, Siberian huskies require much stimulation and repetition to learn to follow your commands successfully.

Understanding that huskies can do almost anything is crucial because they are super smart. However, they are very stubborn and highly independent, and sometimes (well, most times) they will get on your nerves. That's why we got a saying at Husky Trainers.

Huskies can do anything you ask them to do

BUT...........

The thing is, they just don't want to

So arm yourself with much patience and never give up on your husky. They are your partner and best friend, and your obligation as their owner is to work together in this training course. That said, you must have a couple of tools to successfully train your husky with an e-collar. Let's go through each one to understand the purpose of each tool.

1. Mini Educator ET 300 e-collar + Educator CPAD - 011 Contact Point

We discuss this e-collar in our "Which e-collar to use with a Siberian Husky" lesson.

2. Clicker

We will use a clicker to train some basic commands with your husky. The clicker is a fantastic tool to get started and is very easy to use. We will use the clicker in step 4 of this course.

3. Crate and Playpen

At Husky Trainers, we are strong advocates of crate training your husky. With proper training, the crate will become a safe and comfortable place for your husky to relax and rest. One thing we do not condone is leaving your husky alone, locked in the crate for long hours when you leave.

That is why we strongly recommend having a crate and playpen combination and selecting an area in your home exclusive to your husky. We recommend the 48" Midwest Homes double-door crate or the KONG Ultra-Strong Double Door Wire Dog Crate.

For the playpen, we recommend the 48" Midwest dog exercise pen.

We also recommend buying a crate cover (such as a HiCaptain Dog Crate Cover).

You can also use a dark bed sheet large enough to cover the crate. However, ensure the sheet is not too thick since it could make the crate too hot when you cover it at night.

4. Kong Classic Dog Toy

We will use this Kong toy in the crate and playpen training. You will fill it with your husky regular food, seal it with peanut butter or soft food, and then freeze it overnight. The Kong toy will help tremendously with potential nervousness or separation anxiety during the crate/playpen training.

5. Dog Treat Pouch

For this e-collar dog training, you will reward your husky with treats. We recommend getting the Royal Care Silicone Dog Treat pouch to make things easier. We love this treat pouch because it is effortless to clean and carry.

6. Treats

We will use lots of treats in this e-collar training. For this one, it is best to explore which treat your husky loves the most and which are safe for them. In our case, our Husky Piña loves cheese, carrots, and hot dogs.

7. 50 ft Long Leash

Before letting your husky off leash with an e-collar, we will start with a 50-long leash. With this leash, you can safely practice the recall command. We recommend the Taglory Reflective Nylon Rope Leash because it is durable and strong enough to handle your husky.

8. Hands-Free Dog Leash

A hands-free leash will allow you much flexibility when heel-walking your husky. Even though we will use a regular leash, the hands-free leash is much more comfortable, especially with huskies. We recommend the Sparkly Pets Hands-Free dog leash.

9. 5ft Heavy Duty leash with padded handle

We use the COOYOO 5ft heavy-duty reflective dog leash with padded handles. This leash is super strong, and the padded handles make it very comfortable when your husky pulls. Additionally, the leash is strong enough to pull a foldable wagon.

10. Slip Lead Dog Leash

The slip lead leash is suitable for your dog bag whenever you go out. It is a good backup leash and valuable for certain training situations. We recommend Mendota Pet Slip Leash.

11. Collar

If your husky tends to pull itself off its collar, we recommend the "If It Barks - 1.5" Martingale Collar (without a buckle) and the Petsate Martingale Collar with a quick snap.

The reason to get two is that you will use the "If it Barks" martingale collar for daily leash walks (this one is solid and reliable) and the Petsafe Martingale when using the e-collar.

12. Gentle Leader

If your husky is an excessive puller, you may benefit from using a gentle leader. This device discourages your husky from pulling while allowing them to eat, drink, and play. Thankfully, you won't need to use it constantly, only when training husky not to pull. We recommend Petsafe Gentle Leader.

13. Toys

Huskies destroy most toys you give to them. We will encourage your husky to play a lot for this training, meaning you need toys that can handle the roughness. We recommend:

13. Sled harness and foldable Wagon

Huskies were bred to pull sleds, so we will train your husky to pull a foldable wagon. To pull the wagon safely, we highly recommend Neewa Sled Pro Harness. As for the Foldable wagon, you can check the Mac Sports utility wagon.

14. Elevated Dog bed

We will use the elevated bed to teach the place command. We recommend Coolaroo Cooling Elevated Dog Bed.

15. Security camera

You can use a security camera to monitor your husky during the crated playpen training. We recommend the Blink Mini.

16. Large Patio/Outdoor area

We will train your husky both inside and outside. If you don't have an outdoor patio area, we recommend that you search for one where you can safely train your husky and let them off leash. One thing, though:

STAY AWAY FROM DOG PARKS

Arm and ready for the next steps

We just gave you a complete list of everything you will need to train your husky successfully and prepare them for the e-collar.

Most of the training you will do in this course will not require using the e-collar. All these tools will give your husky a solid foundation to be an off-leash husky. We advise that you invest in every one of these tools to increase your husky training success.
